Explore Exmoor on foot
Explore the coast, moorland, wooded valleys and villages of Exmoor with this collection of 20 varied walks across the National Park.
The routes take in some of Exmoor’s best-known landscapes and landmarks, including Dunkery Beacon, Tarr Steps, the Valley of the Rocks, Watersmeet, Heddon’s Mouth, Great Hangman, Horner Woods, Wimbleball Lake and Porlock Weir, as well as quieter areas such as Molland Common, Pinkery Pond and the valleys around Dulverton and Exford.
There is a good range of distances and terrain, from short walks of around 2 miles to the 7½-mile route from Simonsbath to Cow Castle. Several walks offer shorter alternatives, making the guide suitable for anything from an easy outing to a more substantial day on foot.
Along the way there are opportunities to discover Exmoor ponies and red deer, dramatic sea cliffs, heather-covered moorland, rivers and waterfalls, historic villages and the spectacular Exmoor coastline.
Each walk provides clear route directions together with mapping, photographs and practical information covering distance, gradient, difficulty, approximate walking time, parking, paths, facilities and places for refreshments.
