Twenty short walks explore the downs, coast, forests, historic towns and villages of East Sussex, combining some of the county’s best-known landscapes with quieter countryside and a wealth of local history.
Highlights include Alfriston, Ashdown Forest, Battle, Beachy Head, Burwash and Bateman’s, Herstmonceux, Lewes and Mount Caburn, Rye and Winchelsea. The selection brings together dramatic chalk cliffs, woodland, river valleys, castles, literary associations and historic settlements in manageable routes suitable for a half-day outing.
Each walk provides clear route directions together with mapping, photographs and practical information to help plan the outing.
