Explore Dartmoor on foot
Twenty routes provide an unusually broad introduction to Dartmoor: high tors and open moorland, river valleys, reservoirs, ancient woodland, prehistoric remains and some of the National Park’s best-known villages. John Noblet uses short and moderate walks to reveal both Dartmoor’s wild character and its four thousand years of human history.
Familiar landmarks such as Haytor, Widecombe, Postbridge, Princetown and Burrator sit alongside Yes Tor and High Willhays, Grimspound, Wistman’s Wood and the Merrivale antiquities. Several walks offer a choice of distances, allowing the same area to suit different abilities or available time. Ancient trackways, stone rows, tin workings, bridges, legends and Dartmoor’s distinctive wildlife all form part of the experience.
Each walk provides clear route directions together with mapping, photographs and practical information covering distance, gradient, difficulty, approximate walking time, parking, paths, facilities and places for refreshments.
